“Are you going to represent the trees after we are all dead?” Amhara Militia & Fano confront Prosperity Party leader.

A video uploaded on YouTube shows a highly-charged meeting between Mr. Dessalegn Belay (local MP and member of the prosperity party)  and the Fano of Raya-Kobo area, in the Amhara region.

“If we are being honest,” said a grief-stricken Fano in the meeting, “you are playing politics on the lives of the people of Raya.”

“When you gathered us at the stadium during your election campaign, you said that you have personally led the northern offensive (against TDF) and won within 15 days.  Why hasn’t the war here in Kobo been completed in two months then ?” he asked.

“Again, you gathered us in Wollo and promised that we will return to our houses for the new year, but instead there is death in every house in Kobo. All of us are mourning,” he said.

How many of our brothers have been killed in Raya? All the villages are bereft of fighting men. And who will protect the women? You are our MP. We have chosen you to represent us but who are you going to represent after having us all killed? Are you going to represent the trees after we are all dead?’ he asked.

Mr. Dessalegn tried to calm the angry Fano and militia assuring them that drones have recently been purchased. He also told the frustrated militia that 15000 Ak 47 ammunition will be handed out through the local administrators.

“Please do not pay unnecessary sacrifices by engaging those who are equipped with ZU23 and  DShKs,” he cautioned the crowd.

“Your heroism will be written at length in the future. Your government is with you. We will win. Victory is on our side,” he added, before finishing his speech and the gathering crowd dispersed.
